Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Anti-wrinkle injections are a non-surgical cosmetic treatment, to relax specific facial muscles which reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Made of natural, purified protein, these injections are effective in treating expression lines such as forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, and bunny lines, helping to soften dynamic wrinkles in a safe and non-invasive manner.

What Are Anti-Wrinkle Injections?

Adelaide cosmetic injectable nurse

Women of all ages deal with skin that is continually ageing. The struggle to keep your skin looking its best, can feel never-ending at times. It’s true that many factors can play a part in the appearance of your skin, including your age, lifestyle choices, and skin care routine. Sometimes you need something a little stronger to make a noticeable difference in how you look our anti-wrinkle treatments, available in Brisbane, Gold Coast & Darwin, are one such choice that can delay the ageing process, giving you the beautiful skin you’ve always wanted.

Anti-wrinkle treatments involve an injection of a purified protein, into the muscle to bring about a chemical reaction that prevents the release of acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter) at the neuromuscular junction, relaxing muscle activity. What this means for the person receiving the wrinkle removal treatment is a fuller, smoother and more youthful appearance in the area of the face being treated. Typically, you’ll likely see noticeable results at about four days post-treatment, with the full effects visible at two weeks. These times are averages; the actual time it takes for you to see results depends largely on your individual response after the anti wrinkle injection treatment at either our Brisbane, Gold Coast or Darwin clinics.

Anti-wrinkle injections are quite safe and are TGA-approved for a variety of medical conditions, and now, in the prevention and correction of facial lines. There are two different types of facial lines: dynamic lines, seen during facial expressions such as smiling or frowning, and static lines, seen even when the face is at rest.

What To Expect From Your Anti-Wrinkle Treatment

When you come in for your initial complimentary anti wrinkle injection treatment consultation at our Brisbane, Gold Coast or Darwin location, you will receive a full facial assessment and treatment plan tailored to your specific concerns and current ageing process. We’ll discuss your expectations for treatment and answer any questions you may have so that you know exactly what to expect.

You may choose to go ahead with your anti wrinkle injections treatment on the day of your consultation or you may schedule your treatment for a future date. On the day of your treatment, we’ll schedule a follow-up review, as well. Your consultation and treatment will take a total of approximately 45 minutes; returning clients will need only about 15-20 minutes per treatment.

Possible Anti-Wrinkle Treatment Side Effects

Specific injection techniques, accurate dosing, and your adherence to post-treatment care all help to keep side effects to a minimum. Potential side effects:

Bruising – There are many tiny blood vessels in the face that supply oxygen to the tissues. Some of these are visible and can be avoided; however, the potential exists to come into contact with invisible vessels during treatment. The result of this is usually a small bruise which can be easily concealed with makeup, if desired.

Brow drooping – Brow drooping, or ptosis, can occur when product migrates into a muscle not intended for treatment. This can create a temporary downward effect of the brow. However, this is rare, and can be further avoided through the use of special injection techniques and post-treatment care.

Eyelid drooping – Just as with eyebrows, the eyelids may droop as a result of product migrating into the upper eyelid muscle – but this is also rare. Product migration may also occur in other areas of the face.

During your initial consultation, you’ll learn which muscles will be affected by your treatments so that you understand the specific risks. It’s important to note, however, that the risk of unexpected side effects is minimal, and your adherence to post-treatment care can further minimise any potential risk.

Post Anti-Wrinkle Treatment Care

Do NOT lie down, massage or apply pressure to the treated area for 4 hrs after treatment as product may migrate to areas causing unintentional treatment.

Avoid facials and hot saunas for 24 hours after treatment to decrease the chance of minor temporary bruising and product migration.

Avoid rigorous activities, extensive sun or heat exposure, and alcoholic beverages for 24 hours post treatment. This may cause temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the sites of the injection.

You may apply makeup lightly after treatment, however if possible we ask that you avoid this.

Try to exercise your treated muscles for the first hour after treatment (e.g. practice frowning, raising your eyebrows or squinting). This helps to work the product into your muscles. It will NOT negatively impact your treatment if you don’t do this.

Any bumps or redness will disappear within approximately 20 minutes post treatment. If you do develop a bruise it will resolve like other bruises you have had in about 1- 2 weeks..

Some clients may experience a mild headache for 1-3 days post treatment. This should be relieved by simple analgesia (pain relief).

Results of your treatment may take up to 14 days to take full effect although many people will recognize the onset of effects within 3- 5 days after treatment.

Anti-wrinkle treatments are a temporary procedure. In most people the benefits will last about 3- 4 months, some may experience results that last longer and some shorter as treatment will depend on the body’s response to nerve regeneration.

Treatment is often conducted in phases and you may require treatment over two sessions. This is established based upon movement at your 2 week review and ensures you receive a safe effective treatment.

Please feel free to call either our Brisbane, Gold Coast or Darwin clinic anytime of the day with all concerns regarding you anti-wrinkle injections.

Anti-Wrinkle Injection FAQs

Anti-wrinkle injections are said to last approx 12 weeks. Some people will get longer out of their treatment and others may have movement return sooner. Anti-wrinkle injections work by blocking a neurotransmitter that is involved in muscle contraction. As treatment is not an exact science, treatments can vary from time to time. Some treatments may be more effective than others. Being unwell and taking some medications can impact your treatment outcome. It is important that you provide all medical history at the time of treatment and only have treatment when you are feeling 100% well. At Cosmetic Injectables Australia our practitioners follow through with your treatment results to allow for effective monitor. This can assist with ensuring you are receiving consistent outcomes throughout your ongoing treatments. By having your treatment history we have the ability to titrate treatments to suit your needs.

At Cosmetic Injectables Australia we price per unit used opposed to area treated. The reason for this, is everyone’s muscles will have a different strength and require a different dose. The longevity of treatment can be impacted by dose, among other factors, so it is important to be assessed to ensure your muscle strength is being treated correctly. We are unable to highlight price per unit due to the TGA regulation where price must not be advertised with units. Please contact clinic or refer to our treatment pricing page.

Anti-wrinkle injections are the same as dermal fillers in that you are unable to have treatment whilst pregnant or breast feeding. The reason for this, is there is minimal research to say it is 100% safe. Once you have stopped breast feeding and your little one is safe and consistent with their new food source then we can recommence treatment. This can be from 2 weeks onwards.

Everyone has a different pain tolerance. What you are going through on the day will impact how you feel about the pain experienced during treatment. Most often the treatment will not be painful, is quick and well tolerated. You will experience a sting like sensation which can be eased with ice if you wish.
