Tear trough fillers, sometimes referred to as under eye fillers, (schedule 4 medicine in Australia) are a cosmetic injectable treatment used to reduce the appearance of under-eye bags and dark circles.
The tear trough is the area between the lower eyelid and upper cheek, and as we age or lose weight, it can become more pronounced due to volume loss and thinning skin.
The dermal filler attracts and absorbs water and this is how it provides support, volumisation and hydration of the tear trough area.
Dermal fillers are substances that are injected into the skin and deep tissues of the face to add volume and improve the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and hollow areas.
There are a number of different types of dermal fillers and these are discussed during your complimentary consultation.
During the treatment, the area can be numbed with a topical cream or through the injection of local anaesthetic.
The dermal filler is then injected into the tear trough using a small needle or cannula technique (these techniques are explained during your complimentary consultation), which helps to minimise bruising, swelling and other potential complications.
Please do not massage the treated area unless instructed, as the dermal filler remains malleable for up to two weeks after treatment.
The results of tear trough filler can be seen immediately, and the treatment typically lasts approximately 6 to 12 months, depending on the type of filler used and individual factors such as metabolism and lifestyle.
Like any cosmetic procedure, there are potential risks and side effects, including bruising, swelling, and infection, but these are generally rare and temporary. The risks of treatment will be covered in your consent form ad your practitioner will explained them to you during your complimentary consultation.
It’s important to choose an experienced and qualified practitioner when considering tear trough dermal fillers, as proper technique and injection placement are crucial for achieving natural-looking results and minimising complications.

Tear trough volumisation typically lasts between 6 and 18 months, though individual factors like metabolism can affect this duration.
Tear trough volumisation treatments are liquid products injected under the eyes to reduce the appearance of hollows, improve under-eye volume, and create a refreshed, youthful look.
Migration is rare but possible. Our skilled practitioners use precise techniques to minimise any risk of product movement, ensuring natural-looking results.
Tear trough volumisation treatments can help reduce the appearance of dark circles by filling in hollow areas and reflecting light, which can brighten the under-eye area.
Most clients experience minimal discomfort during tear trough volumisation treatment. We use a numbing agent to ensure the procedure is as comfortable as possible.
Some clients may experience slight bruising or swelling, though it varies from person to person. These effects are temporary and can be managed with ice and paracetamol if needed.
Tear trough volumisation primarily address volume loss and hollowness. While they can soften some fine lines, they are not intended as a solution for wrinkles.
Tear trough volumisation usually take up to 2 weeks to fully settle, allowing the area to adapt and reveal final results.
The amount needed varies per individual, but typically, 0.5 to 1 mL per side is sufficient for a natural result in the tear trough area.
The cost of chin enhancement varies depending on the amount required and the type of filler used. As per regulatory requirements set by our governing bodies, all pricing details for treatments are disclosed during an in-person, complimentary consultation at our clinic locations.
