Want a quick, pain-free and effective treatment for ageing, acne or skin rejuvenation? We offer LED Light Therapy in our Brisbane & Darwin clinics.
Light Emitting Diode (LED) Phototherapy uses wavelengths of light to help regenerate the skin by increasing collagen production and reducing the activity of oil glands within the skin. Originally created by NASA to help plants grow in space, further research found the LED could be applied to help treat wounds quickly but also help regenerate skin and muscle tissue.
LED Phototherapy uses red and blue light frequencies to target different parts of the skin, most commonly on the face, neck and chest.
The red light treats the epidermis – the outer layer of your skin – which absorbs the light and creates more collagen proteins in response. This can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as we age while also reducing inflammation and circulation.
The blue light targets the sebaceous glands – also known as oil glands – that sit beneath our hair follicles. When those glands become overactive, your skin can become oily and you may suffer from acne. The blue light penetrates the glands making them less active, giving you less oily skin and fewer breakouts while also killing acne-causing bacteria.
The best part about LED phototherapy is that it doesn’t contain ultraviolet rays and doesn’t burn the skin like in other treatments so it’s safe to use and won’t cause long-term damage to your skin.
The LED phototherapy treatment takes around 30 minutes. Because it’s only light penetrating your skin, the downtime is minimal and you can get on with your day.
Book a free LED Phototherapy consultation at our Darwin, Brisbane and Katherine clinics today to experience smoother and less troublesome skin from the very first treatment.
At the time of your treatment, your experienced Registered Nurse will prepare your skin. Your treatment will not be painful but we have a topical anaesthetic available if it’s needed. The device we use is the patented technology and clinically proven Dermalux Flex LED, which includes cooling technology to make sure it’s comfortable and pain-free.
Your experienced Registered Nurse will focus on any problem areas you’ve discussed and make adjustments as required.
Safety considerations are important during your LED Phototherapy treatment session at all our clinics. You and your Registered Nurse will be provided with eyewear to ensure your safety during the treatment. We will take all necessary precautions to ensure your safety.
The treatment works best on clean skin that has had limited exposure to the sun in the previous 4-6 weeks.
We can’t provide treatment to you if:
• you are taking Accutane for acne
• you are taking any other medication that makes you sensitive to light
• you have fake tanned in the last 2 weeks
If you have a history of cold sores, your Registered Nurse may recommend a prophylactic antiviral therapy. Follow the directions for your particular antiviral medication.
After LED light therapy treatment at our Brisbane or Darwin clinic, your skin may show some mild irritation/redness/erythema. This should subside fairly quickly. If you have any concerns about your skin, please let us know.
It’s important that you avoid wearing makeup for 24 hours after your treatment and avoid sun exposure for at least 14 days post treatment.
After those 14 days, always apply SPF 30+ sunscreen before going out into the sun and continue re-applying.
Wash the treatment area twice daily with a gentle cleanser and a light moisturiser that won’t clog your pores. If you can, avoid acids, irritants and active serums – including toner and face scrubs – for a week after your treatment.
