PDO – or polydioxanone – is the newest innovative treatment to assist in preventing the signs of ageing. We offer thread lifts in both our Brisbane & Darwin clinics. Read on to learn more & then book a thread lift online at either our Brisbane, Darwin or Gold Coast locations.
PDO is a type of microscopic thread positioned into the skin through a very thin needle in the identified treatment areas. The strands are placed in a sterile manner into the subcutaneous fat–or SMAS layer–which in essence ‘supports’ the skin, improving the structure of the face, neck and décolletage.
Your skin texture will appear more supported through the threads’ ability to stimulate tissue neo collagenases–the production of new collagen–making it firmer, improving colour, narrowing pores and smoothing fine lines.
PDO threads, also known as thread lifts, have also been shown to activate fibroblast resulting in the synthesis of elastin, the natural development of new collagen, and the production of natural hyaluronic acid for up to 6 months. That’s a potent mix of natural skin boosters!
The treatment is suitable for the face, neck and décolletage – particularly areas that are influenced by facial aging due to gravity, bone reabsorption plus soft tissue atrophy.
Book a free PDO Thread consultation at our Brisbane, Gold Coast or Darwin clinics today to experience firmer, smoother, younger looking skin.
At the time of your treatment, your experienced Registered Nurse will prepare your skin, a sterile procedure will take place. The treatment area must be carefully marked, prepped and draped ready for the procedure to take place.
A topical or local anaesthetic is available and will be discussed during your consultation and prior to your treatment being performed.
Your Registered Nurse will focus on any problem areas you’ve discussed and make adjustments to the length of the thread as required.
Safety considerations are important during your PDO treatment session at either our Brisbane or Darwin clinics. Make sure you advise your Registered Nurses of all medical conditions, allergies and whether or not you are taking any medications during your consultation.
We will take all necessary precautions to ensure your safety.
After your consultation, our experienced Registered Nurses will provide you with all the necessary information required to get you ready for your treatment. A thorough consultation is required prior to any treatment. It is important to note that treatment is not performed on the day of your consultation and treatment planning is required.
We can’t provide treatment to you if:
The treatment is not recommended if you are pregnant or lactating or suffer from diabetes or blood clotting disorders. Let us know if this is your situation and we can recommend an alternative treatment.
If you have had a history of cold sores, your Registered Nurse may recommend a prophylactic antiviral therapy. Follow the directions for your particular antiviral medication.
We know your skin will look amazing but don’t touch or rub your face immediately after the treatment.
Your skin may show some mild irritation/redness/erythema and may have some stiffness or restricted movement in the treated area, pulling pain, dimpling of the skin, swelling, bruising, itching or burning. You can apply ice lightly to the area. Oral analgesia will be discussed with you prior to leaving clinic. Avoid UV exposure and spas, saunas or other temperature extremes.
It’s important that you look after your skin carefully post-treatment. To ensure best results, for 2 weeks, do not:
You can use makeup after 48-hours post treatment.
The treatment can take up to an 1 hour to complete depending on your skin goals.
There may be some mild discomfort, but the treatment should not be painful. We
have a topical and/or local anaesthetic available if you need it.
There is a risk of downtime and this will be discussed with you during your
consultation. Remember to avoid UV exposure, extreme temperatures, opening your
mouth widely, other facial treatments or dental procedures and anti-inflammatories like Nurofen for 2 weeks, and exercising for 5 days.
Facial ageing varies due to anatomical differences and the extent of individual ageing processes. Multiple treatments may be required along with additional therapies such as skin treatments, anti-wrinkle and dermal fillers to achieve the desired clinical outcome of full-face restoration and rejuvenation. The ageing process does not stop therefore PREVENTION’ is always best and maintenance will be required.
PDO threads once inserted will begin the breakdown process where new collagen is remodeled. This process occurs over a 3 month or 12 weeks process. Results can last 12 to 18 months. Collagen is permanent however aging continues so it is important to maintain results. A treatment plan can be discussed with your Nurse Practitioner or Registered Nurse during your complimentary consultation.
Swelling can last for a good 5 to 7 days post treatment. It is important that you do plan downtime.
You can exercise 48hrs post treatment. Whilst you can likely exercise 24hrs after treatment we would prefer you take an extra day to rest. It will allow for a bit more recovery time.
PDO threads will typically dissolve over a 3 month / 12 week period.
One treatment is not necessarily better than the other as they address differing aging concerns. PDO threads are for collagen remodelling within the skin (Focused on structure of the skin) and Dermal Filler replaces volumes and provided support deeper in the tissues (Focused on supporting bone, fat pads, ligaments and muscles that are deeper beneath the skin). When considering a treatment plan it is important to consider the face and every structure that is present that helps create our individual appearance. A combination approach to treatment is often required to reach balance within the facial structures, preventing the aging process.
We are unable to remove the PDO thread once inserted into the skin tissue. If a thread is found to be too superficial it may find its way to the surface. This will often present as a small pimple like dot. You may also feel it. It is rare and often not problematic. It can present like a ‘spitting stitch’. We would recommend you contact our team if you are experiencing this. You will be informed after treatment during your post care instructions on how to manage this ‘spitting stitch’ should it happen.
