Did you know that we can dissolve dermal & lip filler injections at our Brisbane, Gold Coast & Darwin clinics?
Dermal fillers are one of the most commonly performed cosmetic injectable treatments across Australia and globally. At times dermal filler may need to be dissolved.
There are many reasons as to why it may be suggested by your practitioner and or yourself to dissolve dermal fillers injections.
• You are unhappy with the dermal filler treatment.
• A complication has occurred such as a vascular occlusion (a blood vessel has been blocked by the dermal filler causing a lack of blood flow to your tissues)
• Infection
• Granuloma – firm or hard lumps of dermal filler. This can occur as a result of the human body rejecting the filler or a previous infection, inflammation or biofilm that has encapsulated the filler.
• Product migration and overfilling of areas of the human face. Repeated ongoing treatments can place you at risk of overfilling and product migration.
At Cosmetic Injectables Australia we use a prescription medication that is commonly used to dissolve dermal fillers.
The medication begins to work straight away by breaking down the hyaluronic acid bonds. This is why it is favoured method for dealing with emergency events such as a ‘vascular occlusion’(a blood vessel that has been blocked by the dermal filler causing a lack of blood flow to your tissues).
Whilst results are immediate, progressive dissolution of the HA continues to occurs over the next 24-48hrs. Your anatomy will return to its normal state prior to the dermal filler injection treatment. It is important to note that dissolving will work on other dermal filler that is in and around the area being targeted. This means there is a risk of dissolving any previous treatments you may have had.
Dissolving injections do not work on permanent or semi-permanent dermal fillers. It is recommended not to inject in and around previous permanent or semi-permanent dermal fillers.
The most difficult aspect of dissolving dermal filler is judging the amount required to dissolve a certain amount of filler, therefore multiple treatments may be required over 1-2 weeks to completely dissolve the HA filler from the area of concern.
When dissolving in an emergency situation the priority is to restore blood flow and oxygen to your tissues. This involves dissolving all dermal filler in and around the area. It is important to be aware that if you have had previous treatments, this filler will also be dissolved. This is something for you to consider when having your dermal filler treatments.
Allergic reaction including anaphylaxis is a risk with treatment. The most common side effect is swelling and bruising. The swelling will start to subside over 24 – 48hrs. Bruising will last as long as bruising lasts for you. We would recommended planning a couple of days for down time – a consult will be performed prior to having dissolving injections.
Anaphylaxis, is a serious but rare side effect that can occur as a result to the body reacting to the prescription medication we use to dissolve the dermal filler injections. We will perform a test patch prior to performing the treatment. It is important to ensure you provide your full medical history, medications and previous reactions to medications even if you feel it is not relevant so your practitioner can assess the risk of reaction.
It is recommended to wait 2 to 4 weeks post dissolving dermal filer to retreat. Retreating sooner may put you at risk of dissolving the new treatment.
The cost of dissolving injections will be discussed with you during your complimentary consultation.
